So we are going to talk about bad breath and body odor and address the following…
  • How we can offend other Estheticians
  • How we can offend customers
  • How we can offend potential customers

You have to be aware of your breath and your body odor.

This is something that is hard to gauge in a conversation, especially if the person at fault is unaware…

As women we tend to assume other women learned about body care and hygiene at some point when they were growing up.

Having an open, honest conversation about body odor, breath, and cleanliness can be uncomfortable.

This is because in our society it is always kind of done in a ‘hush hush’ manner, only when something is wrong.

So what are some bad breath solutions?

Mints or gum are both typical go to’s.

Oil pulling once a day, for ten minutes a day is a great way to prevent bad breath.

You can use many different kinds of oil:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Grape Seed Oil
  • Sunflower Oil

Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic cleansing method for cleaning your tongue, gums, and the back of your throat.

What about being aware of body odor?

Either they know they smell, and they don’t care; or they don’t know they smell at all.

With clients, a lot of it may be lakc of knowledge associated with what changes your body odor.

Your bodies pH is heavily associated with body odor.

Soap is a very alkaline, and can actually disrupt our body’s pH. This is due to the fact that most soaps are heavily artifical.

Glycerin based soaps, which are oil based and very moisturizing, are a better option.

The soap and bathing cleansing talk is something that needs to be done very delicately.

A lot of people don’t bathe correctly, meaning every surface of their skin has touched some kind of cleanser.

The importance of understanding what cleansing does is understanding that their are a lot of things happening to our body throughout the day.

we may even use artificial things everyday:

  • Perfume
  • Deodorant or antiperspirant.
  • Body lotion

Switching from artificial to oils is something to consider, as oils are more moisturizing and natural for your skin.

You have to really figure out if they care, or if they are aware of it and don’t really want to talk about it.

Sometimes these things are initiated by clients saying something or complaining.

You can control body odor, if you really address it.

If you are talking to a coworker, the success of the conversation is really dependent on how well you know your coworker.

If you are a manager or owner of a business, the conversation is really going to have to be done with love, also addressing the fact that poor hygiene can affect their success and the way they make money as an esthetician.

If you have poor body odor, your clients may not want to schedule appointments with you.

Be direct, and try not to beat around the bush about it.

We have all experienced these things in one way or another, it’s time we get candid and talk about them.

Sometimes it isn’t just a person that carries an odor.

So what are some ways you can keep the room smelling good between clients?

  • Essential oil sprays between clients help.
  • Post wax pads can be stuck on a fan to have their scent blown around the room.
  • Using essential oils on your clients or directly around your clients is great.
