Okay, let’s talk about hygiene and brazilian wax clients.

We can influence our clients directly with simple conversations.

If you are doing brazilian waxing, and you don’t have a way to handle hygiene with your clients when you need, this is the video for you.

Since we’re in the body area that is so intimate and has possibilities of our exposure to bodily fluids like feces and urine, we need good communication skills to skillfully and successfully handle some of our most difficult issues.

I had one client that gave me the opportunity to develop just such a conversation.

We just started talking about her laundry:

  • how often does she wash her clothes?
  • does she wear underwear regularly?
  • what kind of detergent does she use?
  • does she use fabric softener?
  • what kind of body soap does she use?

From there, our conversation grew to her admitting having an issue with body odor. When we talked about some of the over the counter products for cleansing like Summer’s Eve, and the like, I took the opportunity to share that some women experience the opposite effect of so-called cleansing products due to unique body chemistry.

I started out asking her to stop wearing underwear at night to allow the skin to breathe.

When she returned, she was so excited that she had noticed a change in her body odor with just that first suggestion, and thanked me for starting that conversation when it’s not one we women have ever.

I use this time to educate, and make the client aware that they need to understand the chemicals that come into contact with their skin and personal areas like underarms and hair, and that those chemicals sometimes have negative reactions through odor.

We have two opportunities when we start getting comfortable with these personal conversations:
  • we educate our clients and make them more comfortable
  • they become loyal to us, and REBOOK!

We perform a very intimate service, with our hands in places very few people go, so why is this conversation so difficult?

Here a few tricks of the trade to remove unwanted odors after your client leaves:

  • Lavender on a cotton ball in front of the steamer
  • Lavender on a  cotton ball wiped on the blades of the fan, and turn on the fan
  • Use disposal paper on your bed, and wipe your bed down with wipes

I’ve talked about not cleansing your clients before a brazilian wax treatment, because these are facials. The client can cleanse themselves with specific instructions.

You can also use that time to open up a discussion about personal hygiene during the treatment.

Let’s talk chaffing.

I have experience with this since I turned 40.

Talk about underwear use…especially g-string wearers.

Let’s just not wear underwear if we don’t want panty lines, can I just say.

These are just discussions…conversations…and being open to having them.

We, estheticians have a unique opportunity during brazilian wax treatments – like chatting about why you don’t want your client to put their g-string back on after your treatment, and get all those bacteria right back up in there…
