In my early years as an Esthetician, I thought I was making good money, but I really wasn’t.

  • There was a large discrepancy between what I charged clients and what I actually took home
  • I thought making $200/day was great
  • I didn’t realize that I only made that much 5 days each month

So, what’s really important to consider is…

In business, there’s a good 5 – 7 year space where you don’t really make money…let’s just be honest.

But, when you really know about your business, you make true decisions to make money, then you actually make money!

The way I started my business was that my family gave me money to purchase all my toys.

From there, I made the mistake of using a credit card to keep my business going, and I kept a balance for literally months.

I didn’t know that what I should have done was buy my products with a credit card, then pay off that card to a zero balance as the products were sold through my business.

I lived off the credit card when I was younger…

  • I paid the internet bill
  • I paid the advertising bill
  • I paid everything I could on credit
  • When I was paid with cash, I spent that, too

I’m bring up this subject, because had I learned earlier how to actually build a business, I would have saved myself a lot of heartache, I would have slept better, I would have been able to build real business credit, and I ultimately would have realized the power I actually had in my hands.

So, to really run a business, you need to take the money you make from clients and product sales, and subtract all the bills for the month, and see what’s left over.

  • Some months it’s $100
  • Some months it’s $5
  • Let’s be real
Our industry is changing quite a lot

…but not really.

I got the aha moment to stop selling other skin care products very early in my career.

We Estheticians are used as test dummies from skin care companies. They test their products on us, and we give them free advertising, then they turn around and sell direct to the consumer.

Truth be told…if I was offered $10…$20…$30…$50Million for Se Brazil tomorrow…

I’M OUT!

That’s just how our industry works. Those skin care companies aren’t selling out on us, we’re participating in the industry.

It’s called BUSINESS!

So, what you have visually will tell your clients quite a bit about your business.  If what clients see on your website doesn’t match what they see when they walk in your doors, clients will think you’re broke.

Businesses are built with:

  • Clear Direction
  • Clear Communication
  • Consistency
