Last year I posted the picture above on my Smooth Skin Supply fanpage, instantly causing outrage and surprised responses as to how this could happen in our industry.

Deciding to become an esthetician is not only a time committed decision, it is also a costly one. The average costs of an esthetician program is between $10,000 and $18,000 without the guarantee of passing the state manadated licensing test.

Once passing the state board test, the expense of post-graduate classes, tradeshows and product based education becomes a career-long commitment. The infuriation over this picture, comes from the audacity of a “spa” deciding that it should only cost $1 to receive an eyebrow wax is insulting.

The art of learning how to design eyebrows is a specialized service that takes years to master. With social media sites like pinterest and instragram, estheticians are now able to showcase their beautiful brow design work to potential clients and other estheticians.

My favorite instagram pages to follow are my good friends over at Arch Addicts to look at all of the beautiful eyebrow designs we estheticians have created around the world. Im a proud to say that I have received eyebrow makeovers by my favorite Arch Addict Brow Guru, Diana co-owner of The Browtique in Chicago. Brow design is an art, a craft that should never be subjected to a cost of $1 (.50 per eyebrow!)

We estheticians have to join together and charge what we are worth, which is a lot more than $1. The only way we are going to change the idea of why $1 eyebrow wax is unacceptable is explaining and showing our hard work! Show off you hard work and charge for that hard work! Let’s Wax!
